We took another amazing cooking class at Healthy Living. This class was taught by Brian. I have to say I was a little skeptical about this class. Don’t get me wrong, I love s’mores with gooey marshmallow, melted chocolate, and tasty graham crackers. But the thought of making homemade graham crackers just didn’t sit well with me. I like graham crackers straight from the box!
I dropped Kayla off at class and got her settled at the table. Kayla’s amazing SLP, Laura Bonazinga, was going to join her at the cooking class to work on social cognition skills. When I left, Kayla was engaged in the process of making the graham crackers. I returned 45 minutes later to see Kayla cutting her graham crackers in different shapes and placing them on the cookie tray. Laura reported that Kayla was doing an incredible job at following directions and interacting with peers and adults. After the graham crackers were placed in the oven, the children began assembling their s’mores dip! Brian offered several types of chocolate and marshmallows for the kids to place in bowls for baking.
Some graham crackers came fresh out of the oven, and Brian graciously offered me one. I am generally not a cookie eater, but these were by far the best graham crackers that I have ever had. They were moist and delicious. Laura also tried one and agreed that we both would be making them at home.
Then the s’mores dip popped out of the oven with brown, bubbling marshmallows on top. Kayla dipped her homemade graham cracker into the scrumptious s’more dip, and a big grin spread across her face. She sat there for over 10 minutes dipping crackers and licking all the chocolate off.
We have taken a lot of cooking classes at Healthy Living. The teachers, Brian and Clarina, are amazing! The recipes that they develop for kids are creative and always tasty. But these graham crackers and s’mores outdid them all! We know what Kayla will be doing this weekend . . . making graham crackers with s’more dip!
