There is a program for disabled children called “Katie Beckett,” which provides Medicaid services for children whose families’ incomes are above the SSI limits. You may want to consider applying for this program if your child has a disability that severely restricts age-appropriate activities, requires special services to care for him/her in the home, and your family’s income and resources are above the SSI limits.
If your child qualifies for the Katie Beckett program, there is funding available for personal care services that will enable you to hire assistants to provide direct support and services to your disabled child. To access these services, your child must be assessed by the Office of Children With Special Health Needs (“CSHN”).
